Transparency in the use of public funds is one of the foundations of the rule of law and a principle enshrined both at the European and national levels. In Romania, the budgetary process (drafting, approval, execution and reporting) is strictly regulated and is based on the principle of the publicity of information.
Currently, the Romanian state publishes a large amount of budget and execution data through the Ministry of Finance, the State Treasury, and public procurement platforms. However, these data are scattered across multiple platforms, presented in technical formats and difficult to interpret for citizens, journalists, or civil organizations. The „Public Money, in Sight” project is based on the premise that the problem for Romania is not a lack of data, but a lack of a unified, friendly, and easy-to-understand interface that would allow anyone to track how public money is spent.
